Karbalāʾ: The School of Supreme Values presents twelve lectures by Āyatullāh Sayyid Munīr al-Khabbāz delivered during Muḥarram 1444 AH (2022 AD) in Norway. While rooted in the legacy of Imām al-Ḥusayn (as) and the movement of Karbalāʾ, these lectures address a range of pressing issues confronting Muslims in today’s world.
Sayyid Munīr discusses the relationship between belief in the unseen and societal progress, the concept of freedom and human dignity, and how to address internal struggles such as anxiety and depression. He examines the influence of secular culture on Muslim lifestyles, the ethical and emotional dimensions of gender relations and family life, and the challenges of parenting in a changing world. Other lectures focus on Islamophobia, religious leadership, and the role of difference among scholars. Through the examples of Imām al-Ḥusayn (as), Sayyidah Zaynab (as), and the values embodied in the Karbalāʾ movement, these lectures offer practical insights for living with faith, responsibility, and clarity in an often confusing and demanding environment.
This book is part of the ongoing annual lecture series titled The Horizon of ʿĀshūrāʾ, in which Āyatullāh Sayyid Munīr al-Khabbāz reflects on the ethical, theological, and socio-political dimensions of the legacy of Karbalāʾ. Each year builds on the last, offering a cumulative and evolving vision of how the spirit of ʿĀshūrāʾ continues to inform and challenge our understanding of justice, reform, and faith in the modern world.
