Sayyid Muhammad Husayn Tabataba’i (1904-1981) was born in Tabriz, Azerbaijan. He authored the renowned twenty-volume Qurʾanic commentary al-Mizān fī Tafsīr al-Qurʾān as well as several groundbreaking works on Islamic philosophy and mysticism. Additionally, he wrote numerous books on Shiʿa history and doctrine to bring about a better understanding of Shiʿism throughout the world. His writings have been translated into English and numerous other languages.

One of the greatest philosophers in Islamic history, Mulla Sadra (1571-1640) founded the transcendental school of philosophy (al-ḥikmat al-mutaʿāliyah). Born in Shiraz, Iran, he taught philosophy for many years under the auspices of the Safavid government before retiring to the village of Kahak for a fifteen-year retreat. The “Beacon of Guidance on the Heights of Eloquence” is an English translation of a commentary written by Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi on the esteemed collection of Amir al-Mu’min Ali’s words called the “Nahj al-Balāghah”. The present volume includes the text of sermon one and its commentary, which is largely about God's creation of the universe. 

The Prophet (s) received the Tablet, a letter of wisdom and power, from Gabriel in the form of emerald, which he gifted to his beloved daughter, who became the source of its communication to future generations. The document introduces the guardian of the religion and talks about the tumultuous events that would unfold during their lifetime. Despite its brevity, the document contains an ocean of meaning.
